My last big project while at ArtsWave was to produce the play “Cincinnati: A City of Immigrants”. The idea to produce the play was presented by Alfonos Cornejo, Cincinnati Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President. Mr. Cornejo is also an ArtsWave board member.
The Hispanic Chamber, along with many contributors and organizational partners, produced the document with the intent to take into the middle schools. ArtsWave saw the opportunity to produce adapt the document into a play to bring the community together. To bring the document to life, we reached out to Joe McDonough, native and loved playwriter, to transform the document into a six person play. Daryl Harris, a theater professor from NKU, took the helm to direct. Rounding out the production team as stage manager was Deondra Means, an actor with the Cincinnati Children’s Theater.
I had the great pleasure and honor to work with this team for a year to bring the play to life.
The play premiered at the 2011 LULAC conference in Cincinnati.
